Authorities put restraints on three people over terrorism fears

Latest Newshttp://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060612/wl_uk_afp/britainsecurity_060612140533

LONDON (AFP) - Authorities have put three more people suspected of involvement in international terrorism under a loose form of house arrest in the last three months, Home Secretary John Reid said. The so-called control orders were slapped on two unnamed Britons and one foreign national.

As a result, the total number of people whose movements have been restricted by the measure has risen to 14, including five Britons, Reid said.

Prime Minister        Tony Blair's government introduced control orders in response to a legal judgement in late 2004 that said a law allowing foreign terror suspects to be jailed indefinitely without trial contravened human rights rules.

Control orders restrict a person's movement by imposing such measures as curfews.

The latest orders were imposed on the British nationals on April 5 and May 24, and on the foreign national on May 16.
