--  The accepted mantra is that terrorism emerges from poverty and ignorance. I think that this reasoning is flawed and is an excuse. There are plenty of examples to show that poverty does not lead to terrorism.

Ignorance is prevalent throughout the world, but terrorists are prone to breed in those places that are oppressed by outside superior forces. Terrorism is a tool used by the weak to fight stronger oppressors.

The Western world needs to do a better job of putting itself in the shoes of the weak, in order to better understand the position of the weak and the despair that leads to terrorism.
